What Colorado Workers' Compensation Insurance Does - or Doesn't - Do For You

Most people understand what damages result from a car accident: medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering from your injuries and so on. But sometimes people aren’t as clear about what damages are in the case of a Colorado workers’ compensation injury, or how they can be compensated for those injuries.

Here's how damages from a workers’ comp injury are defined: any harm or damage to the health of an employee, whether caused by an accident, disease, dangerous condition or other means. This harm must be directly caused to an employee while they are performing the duties of their job, even if they were not actually at the physical site of their employer – for example a delivery driver who’s hurt delivering products to a customer’s location. The work-related injury must lead to some amount of impairment or disability, which can include the aggravation of a pre-existing condition.

Colorado work comp insurance is meant to take care of you when you’ve been injured on the job. It’s insurance that’s paid for by your employer and is meant to pay for your medical bills, drugs and medical devices (such as crutches), wages you lose for time off work due to your injuries, and possibly other costs.

Even though work comp insurance is supposed to take care of you, it doesn’t always happen that way.
